I was managing the people I have blocked from my account on Tumblr, and against my better judgement I decided to peek at that Sky confessional blog I mentioned before. Once again, the takes were pretty tame for the time being, but then I saw an anonymous post that kinda highlights *why* I didn't like this blog. It is fully quoted below:

"people who put their shared memories where they play music next to the entrance of grandma oooohhh you piss me off guys.

NOBODY wants to see your bat cape rhythm pants performance ult hair playing senbonzakura/any billie eilish song for the 300th time, people are looking for someone who’d at least place a fire prop for a minute

and don’t get me started on shared spaces “to chill”, go put it literally ANYWHERE ELSE ON THIS MAP, people usually put CLOSETS here at the entrance to grab their fire props, not two tacky seats and a stupid flower pot

you’re not getting likes and hearts you’re getting pure annoyance and a trashcan button"

Ignoring the tone for a moment, I can understand the sentiment at it's base. TGC has gone to great lengths to nerf the ways in which players can AFK at grandmas. You used to have shared spaces which could cover all 6 plates, but they've been reduced to kinda-functional shared memories, or shared spaces where players equip their own burner props. That being said I feel like this response is disproportionate.

Players who don't make burners or prop shared spaces probably do know that putting their recordings next to the actually useful shared spaces will get their creations more attention but like... These shared spaces/memories aren't doing much to impact your ability to engage with Grandma's or Geyser. Yes it's harder to find the actually useful shared spaces/memories, but you know what you should do? Just skip to the next memory or hide the not-useful ones.

The post just also seems so unnecessarily cruel. "Two tacky seats and a stupid flower pot"... It feels mean to stomp on someone's creation like that even if they're not that impressive or positioned inconveniently. At the end of the day spaces like those are made by people who wanted to share their shit, and I think its best to assume they were placed with innocent intentions rather than to purposefully annoy. Also like, dude, it's just two seats and a flower pot. It can't hurt you. Why are we so mad.

For a little bit of context: On Tumblr, there are a subset of blogs/accounts that I will call "confession blogs". These blogs are like a confessional booth for fandoms, allowing people to air out grievances and pent-up thoughts about their given fandom. There is also a game called Sky: Children of the Light (which I will shorten to Sky), and the most you need to know about it is that it prides itself on building friendships between players. Most of the community (including myself) say that the Sky community is quite nice and positive, though that doesn't make it free of complaints.

With all of that in mind, I really dislike the idea of a Sky confessional blog (which I did see once, though they specifically titled themselves as a "burn book"). My core beef with the idea is the drama it attracts. Because submissions on these kinds of blogs are anonymous, that tends to encourage people to be more bold with their takes, and the really bold ones tend to draw sometimes heated discussion. For that one Sky confessional blog I saw, the takes so far have been pretty tame and understandable, however a part of me thinks that is owed to the blog's infancy. As time goes on I fear a blog like that will draw in more drama and kind of taint the state of the Sky Tumblr community. In fact, there were other people submitting to the blog commenting that it was a bad idea. Kinda funny that they (the blog owners) would let them submit that.

By the time I was done scrolling that blog, I went ahead and blocked them. As much fun as it might be to ogle what happens to this blog or what happens on it, I figured I really do not need those posts clogging my For You page. I do not derive much joy from them even if I do agree with the submitter's POV, nor do I think I'd be happy in the long term if I did decide to interact with the blog.

Blegh.

This post was originally made to my Tumblr. It is also posted to my website.

As light creatures age, the bond between their body and their inner light gradually weakens. Once the body expires, the bond is severed. The body returns to the earth, while the inner light returns to a place called "orbit". This is how things went before the construction of the crystal in Eden.

Following the crystal's fracturing, petrification took out much of the Kingdom's population, Spirits and light creature alike.

For other light creatures, death by petrification isn't so different from normal death since their light can still escape their body. The ancestors on the other hand were different. Because their light is located on the inside, their petrified body serves as a shell from which their inner light can't escape.

A diagram showing how petrified light creatures can more or less die normally, while the petrified bodies of ancestors prevents their light from leaving their body.

(A diagram showing how petrified light creatures can more or less die normally, while the petrified bodies of ancestors prevents their light from leaving their body.)

The bond between an ancestor's body and its light severs the moment the body is petrified, but over long periods of time, the light "forgets" there even was a body in the first place. When inner light is finally freed from its petrified body, the idea of "light" and "flesh" will have merged to become one, creating the ghostly appearance spirits are best known for.

In this state, an ancestor's (now a spirit) body *is* their light. Physical interaction with objects and others takes conscious effort due to their bodies being partly incorporeal. Spirits are also quite fragile compared to their former selves. With light-based bodies, things like dark rain or dark creatures can be extra dangerous.

An ancestor before and after being petrified and subsequently being turned into a spirit. With their body serving as a barrier, environmental threats like dark rain aren't as dangerous. Being without their body, spirits are naturally more fragile.

Because they no longer have "flesh" to maintain, spirits are also functionally immortal. Keeping their light alive is the only condition for maintaining their existence. Spirits also do not age and their appearance reflects what they looked like at the time of petrification.

This'll be useful for my Sky posts <:]

Edit: For posting art, I may stick to simply uploading things to my website or Mastodon/Bluesky. I don't think Dreamwidth's format does images as nicely as Tumblr does.

However, for my more yapperific posts, I would expect to find more posts here. Yes, I will be crossposting them onto my website so it's kinda redundant, but I like having people be able to see it in a more... public outlet? Dreamwidth still ain't in the general public consciousness (for most people these days) but I want my followers from other platforms (Tumblr... ehem) to still have the ability to interact with my writing.
